This is one of several many Found Object Olympics events at this year's LEGO Idea conference. By any other name (e.g.: Junkyard Sports Tabletop Olympiad, Junkyard Olympics, or perhaps even Tabletop Sailboarding), it's stll the same amazing event - bringing people together in laughter and creativity, nurturing teamwork, innovative thinking, mutual appreciation.

Lucio Margulis, who, upon having transfer files from his old computer to his new, discovered that he had gathered a very useful collection of images and clips. I compiled them into a video which somewhat magically managed to reveal the nature and spirit of the event.

As with all Junkyard Sports activities, the challenge is to use a somewhat arbitrary collection of found materials to create some kind of sport-like event. In the Found Object version, the materials are completely arbitray, gathered from whatever treasures people happen to be carrying with them at the time.

As you will see from the video, every event, though fun and all that, is the most fun when taken seriously.

There are many different approaches to event design. Some groups create great order out of the chaos of random objects, while others use fewer objects and yet seem to have as much fun creating an equally engrossing challenge.

Lucio Margulis is a practitioner of LEGO Serious Play. You can read more about his work (if you understand Spanish) here. You might also want to read his blogpost about the event.
